Updated Artist Statement

My artistic practice involves the realistic portrayal of the contemporary world. I see the world and those who live in it as they truly are, rather than the mask we all hide behind. My works attempt to depict people and society as they should be seen, instead of how the media portrays the world. Reality and truth, as I perceive them, revolve around the private moments and thoughts people have and try to hide from the world. I work to depict those thoughts and moments. I portray the people we see as normal in a light that expresses inner emotion and ulterior motives.
Through drawing, painting, Photoshop and Illustrator I breakdown society and the mundane by distorting the world we are used to. I depict the world as I see it, without a place to hide or a way to disguise itself. I am known for being very hands on when I work, exchanging paint brushes for fingers because I like to feel like I am the one doing the work, not just brushes and tools. Being a college student with a double major I am gaining a well-rounded perspective on the art world and I am growing towards my ultimate goal of mastering the digital medium, I want to understand the medium that people use so often to disguise reality. I use altered and composed images to show my view on America’s political system and I enjoy painting people from my everyday life in an up close and uncomfortable manner because facial expressions and human emotion are of great interest to me.
I work to show the underbelly of extreme emotions like anger and expose the meaning behind the messages we receive in our daily lives. The human mind and body have endless possibilities and from that I find much inspiration and perspective. I am currently exploring the world of digital animation and I aspire to pass on my knowledge of art to future students.

Issues and Domain

My domain name for my online porfolio is:
www.Strofolio.com

Issues with DreamWeaver:

1) Lining up the many many many slices in a reasonable amount of time…there has to be an easier way to do this!

2) Using tables to make a good looking web page (creating effects through DW like those in photoshop).

Artist Statement

Generally when it comes to art I gravitate to the realistic rather than idealistic. I like to see the world and those who live in it as they truly are rather than the mask we all hide behind. My works attempt to depict people and society as they should be seen, instead of how the media portrays the world.
Through drawing, painting, Photoshop and Illustrator I mimic society and the mundane, but I depict the world as I see it, without a place to hide or a way to disguise itself. I am known for being very hands on when I work, sometimes exchanging paint brushes for fingers. Being a college student with a double major I cannot say my work is progressing as rapidly as I would enjoy, however, from college I am gaining a well-rounded perspective on the art world and I am growing towards my ultimate goal of mastering the digital medium.
I work to show the underbelly of emotion and expose the meaning behind the messages we receive. The human mind and body has endless possibilities and from that I find much inspiration and perspective. For the future I aspire to delve into the world of digital animation and pass on my knowledge of art to future students.

Homepage

Website Pros and Cons

Comcast.net
Pros: The site has a lot of links and information. Also there is a search bar on the main page to take you to alternate sites if what you are looking for cannot be found on camcast.net.
Cons: The site is very cluttered and the ever-changing news reel can be quite annoying. Also the site tends to encounter many technical problems that make it more of a hassle than help.

Facebook.com
Pros: This site provides a fun way to connect with friends. Overall the site is easy to navigate and figuring customization options is not difficult.
Cons: The homepage of Facebook is very cluttered and distracting at times. Also the new application program is intrusive and I get quite sick of the amount of spam I receive from other people.

Youtube.com
Pros: This site is easy to upload videos onto. Also it has the great feature of being able to comment on videos and rate them, and there is the option of subscribing to you’re favorite videos so you can be informed of when the creator makes more.
Cons: The homepage is cluttered with may videos and advertisements so it can get confusing. Also when searching for videos there are many same name titles so it is hard to find what you are searching for if it is specific. And I found that to upload a movie, although easy, takes some time for the movie to go live, I feel it could be faster.

Worth1000.com

Pros: This site provides an easy and fun way to show your Photoshop skills. It also provides members with the opportunity to take images from the site easily and vote on images you like.
Cons: The site recently changed its format and it is hard to navigate since I was used to the old format. I also do not like the format of having contests that you cannot vote on or view at the top of the contest list; I feel they should have created a separate page for unfinished contests.

Google.com

Pros: By far the simplest home page you can find. The site is self-explanatory and makes life very easy when it comes to searching for anything. Also Google has many free products such as Google Earth which are just fun to play with.
Cons: Searching for images through Google can bring up many images you would rather not see even when searching for the most innocent of things. Also when searching for more complex things I have found that Google can only help so much. And I feel Google could progress further by having a sounds option, since Google seems to have every “product” but that.

Free Sounds

For those of you who are interested in sound editing, making movies etc… there is a website that was created by some students in some Spanish speaking country as a final project some years ago. A professor introduced one of my classes to the site and i feel like this is a good class to pass it on in.

“Freesound: collaborative database of creative-commons licensed sound for musicians and sound lovers.”
