Updated Artist Statement

My artistic practice involves the realistic portrayal of the contemporary world. I see the world and those who live in it as they truly are, rather than the mask we all hide behind. My works attempt to depict people and society as they should be seen, instead of how the media portrays the world. Reality and truth, as I perceive them, revolve around the private moments and thoughts people have and try to hide from the world. I work to depict those thoughts and moments. I portray the people we see as normal in a light that expresses inner emotion and ulterior motives.
Through drawing, painting, Photoshop and Illustrator I breakdown society and the mundane by distorting the world we are used to. I depict the world as I see it, without a place to hide or a way to disguise itself. I am known for being very hands on when I work, exchanging paint brushes for fingers because I like to feel like I am the one doing the work, not just brushes and tools. Being a college student with a double major I am gaining a well-rounded perspective on the art world and I am growing towards my ultimate goal of mastering the digital medium, I want to understand the medium that people use so often to disguise reality. I use altered and composed images to show my view on America’s political system and I enjoy painting people from my everyday life in an up close and uncomfortable manner because facial expressions and human emotion are of great interest to me.
I work to show the underbelly of extreme emotions like anger and expose the meaning behind the messages we receive in our daily lives. The human mind and body have endless possibilities and from that I find much inspiration and perspective. I am currently exploring the world of digital animation and I aspire to pass on my knowledge of art to future students.
